Psalm 139:14
“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
One of the most beautiful and sacred things God created was marriage. Now before you all get ahead of yourself, as I write this, I do not have a significant other let alone have I been married. But walk with me through this illustration. When a man goes to pick out his tuxedo, the store’s tailor will take measurements of the man’s neck, arm length, waist, leg length etc. When a woman goes to pick out her beautiful white dress, the bridal stylist will do the same taking measurements of the chest, waist, leg length etc. These measurements are used to tailor make the tuxedo and dress so that it fits so perfectly to the individual that is wearing it. It takes precision, time, a sense of passion, and detail. Those two people get to wear the unique tuxedo and unique dress for their special day. They wear it with pride and confidence. Surrounded by the people that love them dearly.
Did you know that you as a son or daughter of Christ is more unique, more individualized, more special than the finest work from any tailor in the world? Well, you are, and that is because Jesus Christ loves you and I so much that He took His time creating you down to the last hair on your body. The word tells us that you are FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made. So if a tailor will take his time to make sure that a dress or tuxedo is perfect, how much more will your heavenly Father do when creating you.
“Not everyone is going to like you Micah. Some people are just envy of the relationships you have because they don’t have them.” “Not everyone is going to like you Micah. They see a smart good looking young man that’s educated and has his stuff together, they are going to be jealous of that.”
Paige Bueckers is one of the most polarizing basketball players in women’s sports. In 2024 after tearing her ACL, she bounced back and had an outstanding year. In a post-game on court interview she was quoted saying, “I did all I could so God could do all I can’t.” That quote stuck with me, it resonated with me. So much that I had a hoodie created with that quote and her on it. In the spring of 2025, she was a part of UConn’s national championship team. I could not wait to hear what she was going to say in her on court interview this time. “…Stand firm in who you are, there’s a lot of people who write you off, there’s a lot of narratives that can try and put you in a box. To tell you that you have to do this you have to do that…stand firm in who you are, there’s people who doubt you because they think you’re doing it on your strength alone, we lean on God’s strength here, through God’s power for God’s purpose. We aren’t doing this alone…do it for the people that believe in you and always stick to who you are.”
This quote may have resonated with me more than the previous year’s one. The world will often try and tell you that you must do things this way, you must look this way, fit you in a box, write your story. However, the word tells us in Galatians 5:1 to stand firm, that Christ has already set us free. I am so glad that those that try to write my story, or try to write me off, aren’t the author of my story. A few weeks before the regular season ended, I sat in my supervisor’s office on a few different occasions. During one of those meetings, I stated to him, “I don’t want to be here if I can’t be myself. I don’t need this job. Last year when I lost my job, it devastated me and I’m not going to allow that to happen again. My identity is not in a job; it is in Him. I was put on this earth to honor and glorify him. I do not need to watch another NBA game in my life. A month later I was informed I would no longer be employed. Mind you, this was the same person that quoted scriptures while saying they would take care of me in the process of accepting this position. “…for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
I walked out of the building joyful because my true boss isn’t my employer, it’s Jesus. And no matter what the enemy throws my way, I will have joy and praise Him at all times. To change who I am, the way He created me to be, would be a disservice to Him. I'm going to build relationships, I'm going to bring joy to any room I walk into, I'm going to make people laugh.
I had a variety of people reach out to me to check in on me and the resounding response I received was, "How are you so calm? Where does your peace come from? Why are you not upset or frustrated?" I smile so big because I know there is a greater purpose. My true boss is not an employer, it's Jesus. My true identity is not in a job, it's in Him. I know who I am, because whose I am! I was not surprised one bit by the decision. I was not happy in my situation. I had Bible scriptures placed on my monitor at work. God allowed me to be removed from that situation to protect me and I am so glad that He did. On my last flight with the team, I had my Bible out reading the Word and the flight attendant came over to say, "now that's what I'm talking about, what are you reading? "The Lord is my shepherd" I said. She responded with, "and I shall not want"... Amen!
